The Cynthia Woods sailing vessel and its recovered keel have been secured for detailed inspection in a warehouse facility operated by T&T Marine in Galveston and will be available for media access after the U.S. Coast Guard and other investigators, including those from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and The Texas A&M University System, have completed their evaluations.
The Cynthia Woods was transported from Freeport to Galveston Friday morning. The keel’s location was confirmed by T&T 32 miles off Freeport in 113 feet of water on Thursday. It was recovered and taken by T&T to Galveston early Friday morning after the Coast Guard completed its on-site examination. Although the recovery operation had not been expected until later Friday or on Saturday, T&T said weather conditions in the Gulf at the time favored an expedited schedule.
Information as to future media photographic access to the keel and boat will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
