COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp today announced two new positions in the System Office of Marketing & Communications. Laylan Copelin will serve as Executive Director of Media Relations-College Station effective Feb. 16, and Reeve Hamilton will serve as Executive Director of Media Relations-Austin effective March 2.
“Communicating our message to the broadest possible audience and making sure all of our members are sharing their message with the public are critical to expanding the reputation of the A&M System as the greatest system of higher education in the nation. I believe that Laylan and Reeve, with their expertise, can help us achieve that goal,” said Sharp.
Copelin will be based out of College Station and will be working to foster media relations for the A&M System. He brings almost four decades of media experience, primarily as a Capitol reporter and state editor at the Austin American-Statesman, to the A&M System communications team.
Hamilton will be based out of Austin and will be overseeing and cultivating media relations with A&M System members. He is an award-winning reporter who covered higher education and politics and hosted the weekly podcast for The Texas Tribune, where he was one of the founding reporters. His writing has also appeared in Texas Monthly, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Texas Observer.
Copelin and Hamilton will report to Terry McDevitt, Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications for the A&M System.
