Texas A&M University System Board of Regents Honors Regent Judy Morgan
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Members of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and Chancellor John Sharp thanked Regent Judy Morgan at her final board meeting Thursday for her years of service to the students, faculty and staff throughout the System.
Regent Morgan, who received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, is stepping down after six years of helping to lead the A&M System through a period of extraordinary growth and advancement.
“Regent Morgan is one of the hardest working, most diligent members of the Board of Regents, and we will all miss her greatly,” Chancellor Sharp said.
In a show of gratitude, the Board unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Regent Morgan for her outstanding dedication and service to the System.
The regents’ concluded in their resolution: “We, the members of the Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System, express our deepest gratitude and respect for her distinguished service.”
During her tenure, Regent Morgan served as chairman of the Committee on Audit and spent three terms as a member of the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs and the Bill and Irma Runyon Art Collection Committee. She also served on the Committee on Finance and as Chairman of the Policy Review Committee and the Campus Art and Aesthetic Improvement Committee.
“I just cannot thank you enough for the honor and privilege to serve on this Board of Regents,” Regent Morgan said at the board meeting following passage of the resolution in her honor.
Regent Morgan lauded the System for putting each of the universities on an upward track.
“Everyone is growing and everyone is better off than we were six years ago,” she said.
Additionally, Regent Morgan added a personal message to her colleagues: “I am so proud to call you my friends.”
Passionate about the arts and the missions of several non-profit organizations, Regent Morgan had a long history of selfless service before becoming a regent.
The former owner and past president of Jack B. Kelley Enterprises, Inc., a commercial transportation company based in her native Amarillo and in her adopted home of Texarkana, Regent Morgan was founder and past president of the Texarkana Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, co-founder and past president of Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, co-founder of Texarkana Women for the Arts, and past president of the Sustainers of the Junior League of Texarkana. Additionally, Regent Morgan served as president of the Wadley Regional Medical Center Foundation Board and St. James Day School Board of Directors.
Regent Morgan will remain an active member of the board until her replacement, Tim Leach of Midland, is confirmed by the Texas Senate. At that point, Regent Morgan will take on the title of “Regent Emeritus.”
In addition to the appointment of Mr. Leach, Gov. Greg Abbott re-appointed Chairman Cliff Thomas and Regent Elaine Mendoza the Board of Regents. Their appointments also are subject to Senate confirmation.
