Texas A&M University System Regents Approve RELLIS Academic Complex Construction
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Thursday approved the construction of the first phase of the RELLIS Academic Complex.
The approval includes the first Texas A&M System academic building on the newly established 2,000 acre RELLIS Campus in Bryan, Texas. Designated as a University System Center, the campus allows multiple A&M System institutions and agencies to offer selective degree and certificate programs in one location.
“The RELLIS Academic Complex will provide access to the cutting-edge spaces and technology key to the multi-institutional educational opportunities provided on the RELLIS Campus,” said Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp. “I would like to thank the Board of Regents for their support and their vision in approving the first phase of the complex.”
Construction of the $42 million three-story building is set to begin March 2018, with an expected completion date of June 2019. The approximately 68,6400 square-foot-building will include classrooms, biology labs, faculty offices, study areas and student services offices. Space for the RELLIS Administrative and Information Technology Suites also will be available.
“The completion of the RELLIS Academic Complex across from the Blinn College building will only strengthen the relationship between Blinn and The Texas A&M University System,” said Charles Schwartz, Chairman of the Texas A&M University Board of Regents. “I am excited to see how the partnership continues to grow and serve the surrounding Brazos Valley region.”
Blinn College is set to open a new 83,000-square-foot-facility with 18 classrooms and eight laboratories on the new RELLIS Campus by the Fall 2018 academic semester. Students will later transition across the street into the Texas A&M System’s Academic Complex to complete bachelor’s degrees.
Announced in May 2016, the RELLIS Campus serves as an ecosystem to foster cutting-edge research, technology development, higher education and workforce training and will be home to the Academic Complex, as well as multiple new transportation and engineering research and laboratory facilities. Upon completion of phase two, the Academic Complex is expected to accommodate 2,500 students.
