BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System today named Dr. Vince Kellen as its next Chief Information Officer, effective December 1.
Kellen brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education and enterprise information technology, including a strong record of success in AI, supercomputing, and digital transformation.
Most recently, he served as Chief Information Officer at the University of California San Diego, where he led major advances in high-performance computing, data analytics, and research support. He previously held senior IT leadership positions at the University of Kentucky and DePaul University.
“The key factors in Dr. Kellen’s selection are his deep experience as a higher-education CIO, his proven track record leading AI and supercomputing projects, and his commitment to process improvement and supporting business needs,” said Glenn Hegar, Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System. “He has the experience and temperament to lead the A&M System in both foundational and transformative IT work.”
Kellen said he is honored to join the A&M System and looks forward to supporting its statewide mission.
“Few institutions have the reach or responsibility of the Texas A&M University System,” Kellen said. “Its universities and agencies serve the people of Texas every day through education, research, and public service. I’m excited to help strengthen that work through technology that empowers our students, faculty, staff, and communities.”
As CIO, Kellen will oversee the A&M System’s information technology strategy, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and data operations. His priorities include advancing digital tools that strengthen research, enhance student success, and improve efficiency across the System’s 12 universities, health science center, and state agencies.
Kellen holds a Ph.D. in computer science with a focus on human-computer interaction, as well as a master’s degree in e-commerce and a bachelor’s degree in communications, all from DePaul University. He is a Fellow of the Cutter Consortium, a member of Arthur D. Little’s AMP Network, and a CIO Hall of Fame inductee.
