BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents voted today to hire its own general counsel, a new position that will report directly and exclusively to the Board.

Nichole Bunker, an experienced attorney with more than two decades of service in Texas government, was appointed to the role effective Nov. 17, 2025. She currently serves as general counsel for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and previously held senior leadership positions at the Office of the Texas Attorney General and the Texas Education Agency.

As general counsel to the board, Bunker will advise the Board on all legal matters under its authority, review agenda items for legal sufficiency and risk, and support the Board’s oversight of ethics, conflicts of interest, open meetings, public information, and other areas of compliance.

“This decision adds another layer of expertise to the important work of guiding the best university system in the world,” said Board Chairman Robert L. Albritton. “Nichole Bunker brings outstanding experience in state government, litigation, and higher education policy. The Board will benefit greatly from her counsel.”
