BRYAN-College Station, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Luke Schwartz — both an Aggie and an Air Force veteran — to serve as the student representative on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Schwartz’ term begins June 1 and ends May 31, 2025.

“Gov. Abbott made a wise choice when he chose Mr. Schwartz to serve on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board,” said John Sharp, chancellor of the Texas A&M System.  “Mr. Schwartz’s education and background — which includes a degree from Texas A&M University and a stint in the U.S. Air Force — will serve the board and the state very well.”

Schwartz, who is from Tyler, earned received an Associate of Science in Biology from Tyler Junior College and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Texas A&M University. He is pursuing a Doctor of Medicine from UT Tyler School of Medicine and an Executive Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from UT Tyler. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board works to provide a statewide perspective to ensure the efficient and effective use of higher education resources and to eliminate unnecessary duplication. It also develops and evaluates the state’s progress toward a long-term master plan for higher education in Texas.
