BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Teresa Edwards, controller for The Texas A&M University System, has received the 2026 Daniel D. Robinson Accounting Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

The award recognizes outstanding leadership and service in college and university accounting and financial reporting.

Edwards has served as controller for the A&M System since 2011. In that role, she helps lead financial reporting and accounting compliance across the System, working with universities and agencies on annual financial statements, accounting standards, year-end reporting and state compliance requirements.

“As a former state comptroller, I know good accounting when I see it,” said Chancellor Glenn Hegar. “Teresa Edwards is the kind of person every large public institution needs. She knows the rules, understands the numbers and helps people get things right. That kind of work may not always make headlines, but it matters. It protects the public trust, and Teresa has done it exceptionally well.”

Edwards oversees preparation of the A&M System’s Combined Annual Financial Report and works closely with System members on financial statement reviews, note disclosures, management discussion and analysis, elimination entries and other reporting requirements.

She also has become a trusted resource when System members face complicated accounting or reporting challenges. When Texas A&M University-San Antonio experienced turnover in its fiscal office, Edwards coordinated meetings to provide assistance and connect staff with subject-matter experts. She and her team also supported Texas A&M University-Victoria during its transition into the A&M System, traveling to Victoria to provide training and working with staff through regular meetings to address questions and develop solutions.

“Good accounting is good stewardship. Teresa’s work helps us keep faith with students, families, taxpayers and the state of Texas. This is a well-earned national honor.”

“Teresa has a rare ability to take complicated accounting requirements and make them understandable,” said Joseph Duron, chief administrative officer for the A&M System. “She is a teacher, a problem-solver and a steady hand for our universities and agencies. She represents the very best of the A&M System.”

Edwards leads annual training for System financial staff, including the Annual Financial Report workshop, and coordinates sessions on capital assets, the Uniform Statewide Accounting System, FAMIS and other topics. She also helps keep System members informed through regular virtual meetings and guidance throughout the year.

Her work has included leading Systemwide implementation of new accounting standards, including requirements issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. For the latest GASB 103 implementation, Edwards prepared pro forma statements and communicated the expected effect of operating statement changes to System members and management.

Edwards also brings deep knowledge of the state’s accounting system, USAS, from her previous experience at the State Comptroller’s Office. That expertise has helped System members identify and correct reporting issues and meet state year-end requirements.

In addition to her work for the A&M System, Edwards has served as chair of the TACUBO Accounting Principles Committee and currently serves on the NACUBO Accounting Principles Committee.

“Good accounting is good stewardship,” Hegar said. “Teresa’s work helps us keep faith with students, families, taxpayers and the state of Texas. This is a well-earned national honor.”
