Texas A&M System Regents Appoint Greg Hartman as Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System Regents today appointed Greg Hartman as Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, a new role created by Chancellor John Sharp to foster more collaboration among institutions and agencies within the system.

Hartman is a health care executive who will leave his position as President of External and Academic Affairs at Seaton Healthcare Family/ Ascension Texas to take the A&M System job. Prior to that, Hartman served as Chief Executive Officer for Seton Medical Center and University Medical Center Brackenridge. He has also worked as a top-level state employee, communications consultant and political campaign manager.

While at the Texas Comptroller’s Office, Hartman helped produce the popular Texas Performance Review, an audit of state agencies that focused on wasted spending. Hartman will begin his work for The Texas A&M University System by focusing on two of the system’s most important strategic initiatives, Healthy Texas and EnMed programs.

“I look forward to seeing Greg’s insight and tenacity help The Texas A&M University System achieve our ambitious goals,” Sharp said.

The Board of Regents also cast final votes of approval to:

  • Appoint Dr. Mark A. Hussey as President of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
  • Appoint David E. Coatney as agency director for the Texas A&M Engineering Service (TEEX).
