Texas A&M System Regents Approve Construction Projects

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved a long list of construction projects Thursday, continuing a system-wide building boom that has been averaging about $1 billion a year.

The Board of Regents approved:

  • Construction for the RELLIS Agriculture & Workforce Education Complex Project at The Texas A&M University System’s RELLIS Campus in Bryan.The facility will serve as home to construction trades training and Texas A&M’s agricultural education program, which prepares agri-science teachers to enter high school classrooms across the state. By providing hands-on learning opportunities and training, Texas A&M University will be empowering individuals to excel in industries with high demands and big rewards. Construction on this project is scheduled to start in May 2019, with substantial completion scheduled for June 2020. The total project budget is $15,000,000.
  • Construction for the Academic and Administration Building – Phase I Project, Texas A&M University-San Antonio.A&M-San Antonio is a fast growing institution adding approximately 1,000 new students per year. Much of that growth is from the recent initiative of adding the freshman and sophomore years to its undergraduate instruction while continuing to grow its upper division offerings as well as its graduate level programs. Construction on this project is scheduled to start in May 2019, with substantial completion scheduled for June 2020. The total project budget is $30,000,000
  • Renovation of the Gibb Gilchrist Building at Texas A&M University, College Station.The Gilchrist Building is an existing three-story office building currently being utilized by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI).

    The programmed spaces in the renovated Gilchrist building will include offices, conference and meeting rooms, lecture and classroom spaces, teaching and research laboratories and support spaces. Construction on this project is scheduled to start in June 2019 with substantial completion scheduled for December 2019. The total project budget is $8,189,705.

  • Construction for the ’72 Wing Chemistry Ground Floor Project at Texas A&M University, College Station.This project will provide renovated laboratories and associated support facilities for biological chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry research projects, as well as laboratories for analytical and mass spectrometry instrumentation. Construction on this project is scheduled to start in May 2019, with substantial completion scheduled for September 2019. The total project budget is $6,400,000.

The Board also passed resolutions honoring Board Chairman Charles W. Schwartz, as well as Regents Anthony G. Buzbee and Morris E. Foster, whose terms are ending as soon as the Texas Senate confirms Gov. Greg Abbott’s new appointees. Student Regent Ervin A. Bryant, who is graduating from Prairie View A&M University in May, was also recognized for his service on the Board.
